Our Own Platform
A Networking Platform for Innovation and Collaboration Independent of Big Tech
Innovation 200 is developing a networking platform for innovators, entrepreneurs and change-agents – and our communities.
It will be a platform for Australians to build our own capacities and solutions, and to empower our communities across the country.
The Project is Convened by Nick Glynn on behalf of Innovation 200.
Expressions of Interest are invited from digital workers, coders, engineers and architects, and from companies interested in partnering with us.
The Problem
Communities and businesses are forced to rely on platforms like Facebook for connection. These platforms are:
- Designed for engagement, not meaningful connection
- Algorithm-driven, making visibility unreliable
- Extractive – businesses don’t own their audience relationships
- Not built for local or civic organizing
- Increasingly distrusted and noisy
The Opportunity
There is a need for a purpose-built platform that:
- Helps small businesses and community groups thrive online
- Prioritizes trust, locality, and relevance over algorithmic engagement
- Supports place-based civic, social, and commercial participation
- Gives users and organizations control over their relationships and data
- Is values-based, with regulation controlled by its members
- Excludes junk
We can replace chaotic social media platforms with a calm, community-first, member-driven alternative.
Who the Platform Is For
We envisage the platform will provide a secure and trusted home for:
- Innovators and entrepreneursย
- Community groups and not-for-profits
- SMEs
- Educators and schools
- Thinkers, thought leaders, and opinion makers
- Civic and political change-agentsย
Timing – Why Now?
- Distrust in big tech is rising
- Facebook engagement is declining, especially among younger users
- Small businesses and civic groups need better infrastructure
- Communities are keen for alternatives that support local resilience
- The political climate demands new digital spaces for organizing and trust-building
- The moment is right to build a new digital commonsย
Membership-Based Governance
We envisage a membership-based ownership and governance model, with regulation controlled by members:ย
- The platform is values-based; members determine the valuesย
- Entry is by approval based on compatibility with the valuesย
- External junk is excluded
- Collaboration between members is encouragedย
- Privacy and security for collaboration is guaranteedย
The Project Model
We envisage a collaborative process involving many individual digital workers and partnering companies.
